Other times the whole thing needs to come down. So how do you tell if a tree needs to be removed? The limb may come down in the next storm, or it may indicate more significant decay that\u2019s not visible.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Fungi or Infections:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> look for crumbly wood, dieback, peeling bark, discolored leaves, or signs of mushrooms and other fungi. Without a solid anchor in the ground, a tree won\u2019t stand for long. They provide <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/platthillnursery.com\/cooling-the-home-with-shade-trees\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">shade<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the backyard, shelter the house from the sun and cold wind, give us <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/platthillnursery.com\/great-shrubs-for-privacy-shade\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">privacy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, yield edible fruit and nuts, and make bird and squirrel habitats, among many <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/platthillnursery.com\/5-reasons-to-plant-more-evergreens\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">other benefits<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Yet, in some cases, they need to be removed, even when they\u2019re healthy. Here are a few other common reasons to remove a tree:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Too Close to a Structure: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">trees impinging on fences, powerlines, or houses may not pose a problem if pruned regularly, but if they risk causing damage, they can be removed altogether.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Too Close to Each Other:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> perhaps the previous homeowners planted their maples too close together, or maybe you underestimated the spread of your oak. It\u2019s possible to let crowded trees grow together in close contact, as they would in a forest. We can\u2019t replace these giants instantly, which means we should think twice before cutting one down. Sometimes, of course, we don\u2019t have a choice.
